A Garden of Many Hands

Every gardener brings something different.

Some grow vegetables.
Some grow flowers.
Some share what they know.
Some arrive with curiosity and a willingness to learn.

Together, all those hands, ideas and experiences have shaped a garden that has been growing in Tugun for more than 15 years.

An open garden

Southern Beaches Community Garden was created as an open and inviting place. With no fences around the garden, visitors can wander through, see food being grown and experience a community garden simply by being in it.

The garden itself is a place to learn.

How it all began

Growing since 2009

Southern Beaches Community Garden began in July 2009, when a group of local residents came together with an idea: to create a place where people could grow food, share knowledge and build community.

The garden became incorporated in January 2010, with regular working bees beginning later that year.

What began as a local idea has grown into a shared garden shaped by hundreds of hands over the years.end us your project details today—let’s unleash the full potential of your green space.

What we grow together

These three principles sit at the heart of Southern Beaches Community Garden.

The garden exists not only as a place to grow food, but as a place to learn about soil, water, plants and sustainable growing, to share knowledge across generations, and to build connections within our local community.

Growing Knowledge

Planting Almanac

What to plant and when in our subtropical corner of the world.

Sustainable Gardening

Composting, soil health, water-wise gardening and growing with fewer chemicals.

Garden Resources

Useful guides, links and resources gathered by our community.

There is always something more to learn

Community gardens work because knowledge moves between people.

A seedling passed over a garden bed or a growing tip shared at a working bee.
Someone trying something new and telling the next person what happened.

You don't need to arrive knowing how to garden.
Curiosity is a perfectly good place to begin.
