In 2016 our local Southern Beaches Community Garden partnered with us to provide processing and composting for our compostable catering products from the Surfrider Foundation Eco Challenge event. The wonderful team at the gardens have been participating at the event each year at our invitation with free stall space and providing free advice & plants for the welcoming attendees. It’s always a pleasure to team up with them.

Tugun Community Bank® Branch is a proud supporter of Southern Beaches Community Garden and has provided financial assistance over the last 10 years to help with the development of the community garden.  We have watched the garden grow and become an important asset to our community where locals young and old can enjoy and develop a love of gardening.  It has been a pleasure working with the committee who are always finding ways to give back to our community by participating in events, providing workshops and offering support to other local groups.

Since being elected as the City of Gold Coast Councillor for Division 14 in March 2016, I have had the pleasure of building a relationship with, and supporting, Southern Beaches Community Gardens in Tugun.

I have found it to be a committed and passionate community organisation that is well run by its members, an organisation that encourages participation and involvement of its local community on every level and is well supported by the community. The group freely gives of its time to participate in several community events held in and around the local area.

The group’s members are very proactive with organisation, planning and fund raising for various projects.

I would have no hesitation in supporting any application for funding put forward by Southern Beaches Community Gardens.

U3A Twin Towns members have enjoyed an ongoing working relationship with the Southern Beaches Community Garden over the past three years. Most recently U3A members helped construct a Hugelkultur garden bed and a wicking bed and, in doing so, learned heaps about ecologically sustainable vegetable gardening. Thanks so much!!

Members from the Southern Beaches Community Garden have attended Thrower House on many occasions and have developed relationships with our youth whilst engaging with them through sharing their skills in various activities. The youth are always very responsive to the workshops in credit to the interaction and engagement received from the SBCG volunteers. Our youth are left with a rewarding experience and the people from the SBCG always leave a positive energy behind when they leave.

As part of the Lifeskills Program at the Blair Athol Homeless Shelter located in Bilinga, QLD, the residents are given the opportunity to link in with the Southern Beaches Community Garden to connect with others and learn methods of sustainable agriculture.  The atmosphere at the gardens promotes a healthy lifestyle. Our residents are given the opportunity to learn the techniques of cultivating organically grown produce that they can take away to cook up a healthy meal for themselves.  The natural calming environment of the community gardens along with the fresh air and sunshine encourages the social aspect fostering a sense of community connectedness and friendships.
